Book Editorial Services

I have extensive experience in editing and proofreading fiction and non-fiction books for UK publishers and authors.

I also help authors put accurate, believable and realistic health information into their fiction – it is so important to get this right, taking into account the book’s setting, characters and plot.

I am always honest and supportive when working with authors. As the author of three crime novels, I know why it is so important to have an editor you can trust. I understand the process of creating the best book possible, whether this is directly for a publisher, for agent and publisher submissions or for self-publishing. My clients tell me that I am quick, accurate, efficient and enthusiastic, have great attention to detail, and am easy to work with.

Developmental (structural) editing

I assess your book as a whole package, highlighting any potential problem areas.

In fiction, developmental editing involves assessing your writing/book style, characterisation, setting, descriptions, pace and plot. I also assess the point of view, use of tenses, repetition, omissions and plot holes. I have particular experience in working on crime fiction.

In non-fiction, developmental editing involves assessing your book structure, chapter structure, language use, understandability and readability, repetition and omissions. I work in particular on medical, health, self-help and self-development books – anything that is related to health and wellbeing. My BSc. in Biomedical Science and MSc. in Science Communication have given me specialist expertise in making sure health information is easy to read and easy to understand.

I can also help with memoir (including celebrity memoir).

Proofreading

I proofread all genres (fiction and non-fiction).

A proofread involves:

  • checking and correcting any errors (or inconsistencies) in formatting, spelling and grammar
  • making sure your sentences flow naturally and clearly – and highlighting any confusion
